| How does a Person Quit Drinking |
| |
There are 5 important factors or steps that must be followed before one can become sober.
- You can't quit because your boss, wife, child, parent, sibling etc tells you too. This can't be stressed enough. You have to want it and be willing to work hard to quit.
- Be honest with yourself and those around you. And don't feel bad if you falter or take a step back. Conquering addiction will be one of the toughest things you do in your life.
- Be nice to yourself, once you've gone a day or week sober, reward yourself. Weeks turn into months and months into years. Set yourself some short and long term goals and treat yourself when you meet these levels.
- Deal with your emotions by talking with someone. Join an AA group, or get involved with people that are going through what you are, it helps to know your not alone. You will be shocked to hear people are worse off than you are and you will be relieved when you meet with people that have successfully made it.
- Try to spend time doing new things. You need to change your patterns and manage your time well. Many people choose to exercise, take up a new hobby, join a club etc. You must train your mind and body to replace the times drinking with a new activity.
